Following on from the relative positioning of the major Saudi Airlines, today let’s look at the UAE airlines.
Same country and sharing the same premium ambition, however two increasingly different brands.
Their difference becomes even clearer when you look at the history of their slogans.
Slogans are not just lines beneath a logo, they are records of strategic evolution.
Emirates has consistently built its brand around the promise of connecting people, places and possibilities.
From “The World’s Most International Airline” to “Fly Emirates. Keep Discovering”, the message has always been expansive. The world is out there. Emirates will take you to it.
Then came, “Hello Tomorrow.”
A more emotional expression of the same ambition, not simply flying passengers from one destination to another, but connecting them to what comes next.
Today, that promise is distilled into “Fly Better.” Short, confident and memorable.
Emirates sells the world through Dubai. Its brand is built on scale, connectivity and global confidence.
Dubai is the platform. Emirates is the global connector.
Etihad’s slogan history tells a different story. Its name means “union” in Arabic, immediately connecting the airline to the identity of the UAE.
Its early positioning, “From Abu Dhabi to the World,” established the airline as a national bridge between the capital and the international stage.
Then came, “The World Is Our Home.”
A broad, welcoming expression of global belonging, with Etihad’s more recent brand direction becoming increasingly rooted in Abu Dhabi itself.
Its new platform, “Beyond Borders.”
This is not only about crossing geographical boundaries. It is about crossing cultural, emotional and personal boundaries.
It feels more purposeful, experiential and connected intrinsically to the emerging story of Abu Dhabi, structured around culture, ambition, and meaningful journeys.
Therefore from the relative positioning perspective we have:
EMIRATES, FLY BETTER. The world, connected. Global. Iconic. Confident.
versus
ETIHAD, BEYOND BORDERS. The journey, reimagined. Curated. Cultural. Purposeful.
Emirates has spent decades making the world feel smaller. Etihad is increasingly making Abu Dhabi feel larger.
One wins through global scale, whilst the other is creating space through destination intimacy.
And the lesson is that slogans are not just lines beneath a logo, they are records of strategic evolution.
Emirates has moved from promoting the world to promising a better way to experience it.
Etihad is moving from representing Abu Dhabi to inviting the world to discover what lies beyond its borders.
Great competitors do not need to fight for the same position. They need to make the difference between them impossible to miss.
Differentiation beats imitation. Every time.
